I feel so much better about being on blood thinners while pregnant after visiting my high-risk obstetrician. I spoke with my doctor and they explained I will be on the dose that my hematologist prescribed, which is an injection that I have to give myself once a day. I was so concerned about going into labor while being on the blood thinners and bleeding out after delivering the baby or needing a cesarean and bleeding too much.
When it gets closer to my due date, they will switch my blood thinner to a different one that’s shorter acting, that way whenever I go into labor, the time for them to use the reversal would be shorter compared to the reversal time for the blood thinner I am on right now.
The closer it gets to my due date, they will decide if I should have a scheduled induction or not.
I’ve never had to be induced before. I had a scheduled induction for my son, but he decided to come a week before my induction date. That’s a story for another time. Although I’m still nervous about being on these blood thinners, I am more relieved to that there is a plan on what will happen and what they’ll do.
